This first system is something I would do, the second is something my mom would. I’m not a big color person. I mostly just wanted to reblog so I could add this: Dick: I guess it looks as if you’re reorganizing your records. What is this though? Chronological? Rob: No… Dick: Not alphabetical… Rob: Nope… Dick: What? Rob: Autobiographical. Dick: No fucking way. - High Fidelity One of the...

Nerd 1: No one’s gonna pay to make vomit comet porn. Nerd 2: But… But, space titties! Nerd 1: That is the best argument I’ve heard all night.

– Grant Elliott Truer words have never been spoken. edit: He tells me he’s probably paraphrasing that from somewhere else, though isn’t sure. Ain’t that academia in a nutshell?

So a lot of people have been asking me, “why haven’t I seen anything funny/ original/ interesting on gsauce in awhile (read: ever)”, which is a legitimate question. But I won’t answer that because I only answer illegitimate questions— basterdized questions, if you will. What I will say is that I will return to at least trying to provide you with some gsauce original...

why i chose yale →
“Why I chose Yale” An outrageously well produced “community made” info video for Yale students. Better marketing than any money can buy, even if it is about 10 minutes too long. I didn’t know facilities like that even existed. Their dorms made mine look like a hand made rural bombshelter… in a third world country.

Why Neytiri is a total hottie.
Like most people who aren’t hell-bent on reaffirming their individuality by harshly reacting against anything and everything popular, I loved Avatar.  Yes, its plot conformed to ‘going-native’ archetypes, but I suspect that if he were here today, Joseph Campbell would have a thing or two to say in defense of Avatar and its justifiable place within the monomyth.  If one thing about Avatar...

My roomate’s cat sucks her toes. I find this bizarre and slightly annoying, but also somewhat endearing.

While sometimes the answer lies in jerry-rigging a potato peeler/ nutmeg grinder out of hardware that I have just “lying around” (death to the unitasker), more often than not the answer is far more profound— “Don’t do something stupid” For instance, I should not have tried to pull the avacado pit off of a knife last night.

Blast from the past
So I posted a long, long time ago about some highschoolers who ‘hacked’ MIT’s admissions/ blog page. At the time I commented: Look what they’ve done: http://mymit.info/ Confused? Compare that to this: http://www.mitadmissions.org/ […] The craziest part of this all is that *these kids don’t even know if they will be offered admission*! […] Most of them have never...

I’ve been reading up lately on ‘Big Games’ (you may recall some recent posts on the subject matter). Big Games are games that include a large number of players. They usually involve extensive use of space and can be played with strangers. The most interesting big games (IMHO) are those that anyone can play, and don’t require extensive rule sets or gaming experience. You...

Fantasy Orientation
This may be out of the blue, but I think this is the right forum to ask this kind of question. While I was home over break, my sisters and I got to talking about Fantasy Orientation (FO). I’m a brain and cognitive science major, so I’m pretty interested in child development of theory of mind, etc. Anyway, I wrote my proposal for a related class on how fantasy orientation affects the...

…I have been charged with the responsibility of becoming an expert on LARPing (Live Action Role-Playing) so that I can be a producer/designer on an interactive fiction game for PAX (the Penny Arcade [a gaming-related webcomic of mass popularity] EXpo, the largest consumer-oriented gaming expo) for GAMBIT (MIT’s Videogame Lab). As my good friend Charlie Forkish put it, “you have...
