The Third & The Seventh by Alex Roman
This film is entirely CG. Read that twice, then watch it. It’s breathtaking. The sound, the visuals, everything.
I saw the early shots of this, and was blown away by his use of texture and light. It’s so awesome that he not only created his own furniture and architecture, but he made it so fucking touchable. Amazing work.
No doubt this is an unbelievable piece of work but I will say this— it’s slightly deceptive. A lot of the work is taken from existing ‘stock’ work (the Exeter building, for instance, is built off of freely available Google 3D building images and the cloud work is not a particle scripting of his own, but rather from stock images as well. Same for a lot of the texturing). I can’t believe the human in this is not live action, right? No way did he rig and animate something like that in addition to the *mountain* of the rest of the work he did.
